How was the year 2020, which gauge 1 models were delivered and who had only big plans and vaporware? At the end of the year it is worth taking a critical look at the gauge 1 market. An insolvency, corona, cancelled shows as well as actual and invented delivery problems have hardly affected the hobby. But the ability to deliver is strikingly unevenly distributed. Newcomers to gauge 1 should study the project list in detail.

You don't want to repack such a heavy gauge 1 model like the V 320 from Märklin. If you need to do so, I have a suggestion on how to do it without helpers.

It was a pleasure to photograph the two hand samples of the ET and ES 85, in epoch IV the Deutsche Bundesbahn class 485 and 885. I received photos from Switzerland of a long train with the cars from Dingler's kits, which are still being pulled by a Bavarian locomotive for the time being.

After the interior and windows have been installed and the chassis has been completed, the assemblies of the Baden express train car from Dingler can be combined. But in the end there is still a hurdle to be overcome until the gauge 1 passenger car from 1903 is equipped with all the details.

Dingler has produced various versions of the Baden express train cars from the turn of the century as partial kits for the target group of live steamers. It is partly already soldered, painted and printed, but it requires more experience and patience than the relatively simple assembly of the Baden baggage car.

If tool making is too expensive due to too small series, the industry turns to additive manufacturing. The now offered accessories, like this lathe, are mostly very inexpensive - but unfortunately not in the 1-gauge scale.

The Steiner Modellwerke have redesigned the inclined coaling elevator. The lorries will be produced once again.

While packing the locomotive I discovered the two figures between the polystyrene flakes. They are cast out of metal and neatly painted.

Messe Sinsheim GmbH just published the decision to cancel this year's 37. Int. Modellbahn-Ausstellung, 19. Faszination Modellbau and 12. Echtdampf-Hallentreffen. The events have been planned for October 30 to November 1, 2020 in Friedrichshafen.

Yesterday, Deutsche Bahn announced an ICE order with Siemens. Because the press material said so, the journalists rushed at the radio-permeable windows and the bicycle compartments. But because an ICE 3 is not an ICE 3, hardly any media report was correct or was decorated with false pictures.

The first half of 2020 is nearing its end. Failed trade fairs and obstructions caused by Corona and an insolvency have not had a major impact on the industry. But if you take a closer look at the gauge 1 project list, you will discover shifts in the market. Because some can deliver, others cannot.

For a long time, far too long, the customers of Kiss Modellbahnen had to wait for concrete results after the insolvency announced in March. Now the results are available.

"Only through patination a row of cars will look like a real train," wrote Hans Ziegler and sent an article and many pictures showing how he and his brother Walter proceeded with weathering freight cars. This is because brand-new gauge 1 models appear somewhat out of place on a railway landscape that is obviously close to the original.

Wunder Präzisionsmodelle will produce a rather exotic cab control and baggage car for gauge 1, which had its origin in Bavaria in epoch III.

Accessories for gauge 1 are usually quite large. Kits can be mounted without magnifying glass and the secure grip of a four year old. The pallet kit discussed here is ideal for fun at the end of the working day - and the result is very close to the original.

Besides the 07 1001 of the DR from Proform there is also a 07 1001 as a live steam model. It is operating in Switzerland.

Achim Lutz has weathered a pseudo-patinated used SBB Eaos open freight car from Märklin according to a prototype photo. The effort was worth it.

Wunder's makeshift baggage cars have provoked more reactions than any previous meeting - consistently positive ones. Since 1967, the models of these cars have been appearing in front of my camera time and again.

From 1957 the Deutsche Bundesbahn built a makeshift baggage car from two 3rd class makeshift passenger cars. Like all transitional solutions in Germany, these cars were in use for decades.

Wunder Präzisionsmodelle now delivered the long baggage cars, which were used in all types of DB trains. The gauge 1 models are well made, but need matching radii. 49 photos of all details.

Many electric locomotives of the former state railways and the Deutsche Reichsbahn have fallen into oblivion because they were only built in small numbers and did not always prove themselves. The German language book by Dirk Winkler recalls them with brilliant photos once again in the memory of railway enthusiasts and engineers. In Stadtoldendorf, Germany, Martin Krane recently exhibited its compact 0e field railway once again. It shows that you can build an interesting motif in 1:45 on the space of an H0 layout. As expected, Messe Dortmund has now postponed Intermodellbau from April to mid August.

Not a grass mat next to the gravel, but a varied vegetation makes the locomotive shed diorama for gauge 1 worth seeing. Grass and plants have "grown" quite fast. But before that I had another idea.
