EK-Special Magazine 161 Gäubahn

by Friedhelm Weidelich

A new special issue featuring nearly 300 photos, train formation charts, and detailed information on the history of the Gäubahn and long-distance service from Stuttgart to Switzerland and Italy is a must-have publication. With the Stuttgart 21 project, the significance of this once-important international long-distance route will continue to decline. Gauge 1 model railroaders will find interesting ideas here for short express trains and prototypical international train formations, as well as D-trains hauled by freight steam locomotives.

DRG E 70 08 from Märklin

by Friedhelm Weidelich

Announcing a model and being able to deliver it immediately: In the 1-gauge industry, which regularly tests customers’ patience to the limit, that sounds like a miracle. Märklin has made it happen—and taken a risk in the process. But in a shrinking market, it’s impossible to succeed without courage and new manufacturing techniques.
A review of Märklin’s DRG E 70 08, featuring 56 photos and a video.

Outstanding U-shaped Gauge 1 Layout: a Preview

by Friedhelm Weidelich

There are always perfectly designed dioramas among gauge 1 model railroaders. But designing an entire layout down to the smallest detail takes a lot of time, a keen sense of observation, craftsmanship and the best materials. Accordingly, it is rare to find such detailed gauge 1 layouts.

The fantastic U-shaped layout, which spur1info will present in several parts with around 160 photos, is a perfect symbiosis of tracks, operating possibilities and a landscape that is very rarely found in this design quality on gauge 1 layouts. The theme of the layout is the transition from the Länderbahn era to the early Reichsbahn era.
